There are two aspects that are my favourite part of being a coach: 1. Helping those that were intimidated by the gym or didn’t believe they could ever be comfortable in a gym learn the skills & technique to comfortably train by themselves. Discovering a love for training & realising the gym could be a favourite part of their day 2. Helping clients that have struggled with their nutrition for years develop the skills to successfully manage their nutrition, achieve their body composition goals & get out of a mindset of restriction & self-shame. Overall my favourite part of coaching is the relational aspect. I love the fact that as coaches we have an opportunity to develop meaningful connections with our clients which often turn out to be great friendships.

PROUDEST MOMENT

My proudest moment as a coach was my final day at a gym I worked at for 4 years. I had a chance to reflect on the number of people I had been able to support in some way or another and it reminded me why I have loved this job & have worked to become a better coach everyday.

Alpa is one of my longest term clients (4+ years) who went through a complete health & lifestyle change. At 4’11 Alpa became adapt & organising her nutrition around a vegetarian Indian diet whilst also overcoming obstacles to achieve her body composition goals. Alpa enjoyed the health & fitness transformation so much that she became a PT & now helps others enjoy the same journey.

Connor has been putting in some hard work over the course of the last year. Going through a consistent gaining phase before a quick cut Connor has added a considerable amount of size

The main principles Connor has followed over this time has been:

  • Lean starting bodyweight which gives a psychological buffer to permit consistent weight gain over a longer time course
  • Adequate protein (2.3g p/kg bw)
  • Primary focus on hypertrophy training through both gaining & cutting phases
  • Incremental bodyweight gain of an 0.5% bodyweight p/wk
  • Aggressive rate of weight loss of 1% bodyweight loss p/wk
  • Monitoring & overloading of training stimulus week to week
  • Consistency – Connors work ethic both with nutrition/ training/ goal setting is rare in someone so young so is a great platform to build more gains from.

Between the first and last photos Connor has added 5kg with conditioning being similar if not better at the heavier weight.
